Chapter 70
Once Evelyn had left, Priya turned to Nathan and couldnโt hold back her thoughts. "Nathan, what in the world happened to Evelyn in these past three years? Sheโs changed so much."
Nathan shared a brief explanation about Evelynโs childhood struggles with hormone medication.
"I see," Priya murmured, realization dawning on her face. She then fixed Nathan with a serious look. "Now that Evelyn is back, you should treasure her and make the most of your time together."
Nathanโs expression remained unreadable as he replied, "Weโre actually planning to divorce."
Priyaโs brows knitted together sharply. "Why? Is it because of that Serena?"
Nathan answered with deliberate calm. "Mrs. Sharma, you know exactly why I married Evelyn in the first place."
A flicker of unease crossed Priyaโs face at his words.
After a brief silence, she sighed. "Even if your reasons were strategic at first, three years is a long time. Itโs hard to believe thereโs no real affection between you now. Besides, Evelyn has been nothing but devoted to you. You donโt find that kind of love every day, Nathan. You should cherish her."
She pressed her lips together before adding firmly, "Serena isnโt the right woman for you."
Nathanโs eyes narrowed as he studied Priya. "Youโve barely met Serena. What makes you so certain she isnโt right for me?" He let out a dry chuckle. "Or did my father say something about her to you?"
Priya shot him a disapproving glare. "Nathan! Thatโs your father youโre speaking of!"
She hesitated for a moment before softening her tone. "I may not know Serena well, but thereโs something unsettling about her."
Nathan exhaled in mild exasperation. "Since when did you start judging people based on gut feelings?"
Caught off guard, Priya pursed her lips. "Trust me and your father. We only want whatโs best for you. Serena isnโt it."
Nathanโs gaze darkened, his voice edged with finality. "Iโm the only one who decides whatโs best for me."
Eager to shift the conversation, he asked, "How is Mr. Patel doing now?"
Recognizing his unwillingness to discuss Serena further, Priya replied, "Raj is stable. His surgery is already scheduled."
"Thatโs good to hear," Nathan nodded, his tone lighter.
He stayed in Rajโs hospital room for another hour before his assistant called about an urgent company matter, forcing him to leave.
As he approached the elevator, a soft voice called out behind him. "Mr. Black..."
Nathan paused mid-step before turning around. His expression remained impassive as he recognized the person walking toward him.
