Chapter 241

Nathan was lost in thought.

Before he could respond, Alexander cut him off, his voice smooth but laced with curiosity. "Or perhaps I should rephrase my question. Why did you rush here in such a hurry, burst into my home, and confront me like this? What exactly were you suspecting? Did you hear that sound earlier and immediately assume it was Evelyn? Did you think she was here with me?"

Nathan remained silent, his expression unreadable.

Alexander exhaled deeply, the weight of the moment pressing down on him. "Nathan, are you absolutely certain you donโ€™t harbor any feelings for Evelyn at all?"

At the question, Nathanโ€™s pupils contracted slightly, his composure flickering for just a second.

After a long pause, he finally lifted his gaze, his dark eyes unreadable, his lips parting as he answered, "Of course not. I donโ€™t feel anything for her."

Alexander didnโ€™t hesitate. "Then how do you explain your behavior just now?"

Nathanโ€™s eyes narrowed, sharp and cutting. "Regardless of anything else, Evelyn is still my wife. If sheโ€ฆ If she were to betray me like that, it would be unacceptable. This isnโ€™t about her. Itโ€™s about my pride. Thatโ€™s the only reason I reacted the way I did."

A quiet scoff escaped Alexander as he shook his head. "Nathan, be honest with yourself. If you truly didnโ€™t care about Evelyn, if she meant nothing to you, would it really matter who she was with? At most, youโ€™d feel disgusted, maybe irritated. But this kind of fury? This intensity? Thatโ€™s not the reaction of someone whoโ€™s indifferent."

He glanced at the clock on the wall, a knowing smirk tugging at his lips. "Twenty-seven minutes."

Under normal circumstances, it took an hour to reach his estate from the Black family mansion. Yet Nathan had made it in less than half that time. "Would you really push yourself that hard for someone you claim not to care about?"

Alexanderโ€™s words struck like a blow, landing deep in Nathanโ€™s chest.

His brow furrowed, irritation flashing across his face as if Alexander had exposed something he wasnโ€™t ready to acknowledge.

Clenching his jaw, Nathan snapped back, defiance sharpening his tone. "Evelyn is my wife. Thatโ€™s why this is different! If she actually did something like that, it would tarnish the Black familyโ€™s reputation. I wonโ€™t allow that to happen!"

Alexanderโ€™s lips parted slightly, but no words came out.

Instead, he studied Nathan carefully, his expression a mix of complicated emotions.

It was impossible to tell whether Nathan truly didnโ€™t recognize his own feelingsโ€”or if he did and was simply refusing to admit them.

Then, something seemed to click in Alexanderโ€™s mind, and a sly smile curved his lips.

He nodded slowly, his tone light but loaded with meaning. "Well, if thatโ€™s the case, then all the better. Nathan, rest assured, Iโ€™d never betray youโ€”not before you and Evelyn finalize your divorce. And honestly, since your divorce is imminent, I donโ€™t mind waiting a little longer. Iโ€™ve been patient for years already."

At Alexanderโ€™s words, the veins in Nathanโ€™s temple pulsed visibly, the anger that had momentarily subsided roaring back to life within him.
