"Absolutely! Time to turn the page." Evelyn's smile radiated pure, unshackled relief.

Alexander let out a slow breath before nodding. "Alright. After dinner, we celebrate properly."

The trio finished their meal and headed straight for The Velvet Lounge.

"To Evelyn's fresh start!" Natalie declared, lifting her champagne flute with infectious energy.

Following her lead, Evelyn and Alexander raised their glasses. The crystalline chime of clinking glassware filled the air between them.

"I still can't believe Serena's audacity! She staged that fall and had the nerve to accuse you," Natalie fumed, swirling her drink violently.

Evelyn remained composed. "She wanted Nathan to blame me. To push him toward divorce."

Natalie scoffed, flicking her wrist dismissively. "And he actually bought that pathetic act?"

Eyes lowering, Evelyn murmured, "He claims he saw me reaching out."

"So what?" Natalie shot back. "Reaching out could mean anything! Why assume you pushed her? Anyone who truly knows you would never doubt you like that."

The words wrapped around Evelyn like a warm embrace. She realized truths didnโ€™t need defending before those who mattered. And for those who didnโ€™t? No explanation would ever suffice.

"None of it matters now. Itโ€™s over," Evelyn said with a fragile smile.

"About that maidโ€ฆ Do you recognize her?" Alexander interjected suddenly.

Evelyn shook her head. "The Grants employ dozens. I barely know half."

Alexanderโ€™s lips curled. "Bold move, framing you without understanding the stakes."

Natalie turned to him. "You think sheโ€™s involved?"

"Leonard suspects something," Evelyn mused. "They didnโ€™t fire herโ€”just docked six months' pay. Keeping her close to watch."

"Sharp as ever," Alexander remarked approvingly.

"Enough talk!" Natalie raised her glass again. "More champagne!"

Evelyn gave her a warning look. "Pace yourself unless you want to end up under the table."

"I just want tonight to be special," Natalie pouted.

"Special doesnโ€™t require excess," Evelyn countered gently.

Natalie fell silent, exchanging a knowing glance with Alexander. Both recognized Evelynโ€™s calm as a carefully constructed facade.

Just as Natalie opened her mouth to speak, Alexander suddenly stiffened. "Look over thereโ€”"
