Chapter 6

โ€œIf everyone here is being punished with a third floor room then Cole should get one too. Heโ€™s one of us.โ€

โ€œOh, is he?โ€

I freeze in shock at his attitude. I stand slowly with my bag in my hand watching and listening to the alphaโ€™s next moves. It wasmon for the lead alpha to treat a visiting pack as a single unit instead of trying to figure out the good prospects from the bad.

โ€œAnd what exactly would make me think heโ€™s one of you?โ€ He asks surprisingly slowly and deliberately, waiting for someone to answer.

โ€œHeโ€™s the alphaโ€™s son. Of course heโ€™s a member of Red Fang.โ€ Das, one of the other troublemakers, responds.

โ€œWho his father is doesnโ€™t automatically make him one of you. Never, in all the years Iโ€™ve been in this program, have I seen a member of a pack treated with such demeaning, humiliating disrespect. To purposely degrade not just another wolf but a wolf you likely grew up with by attempting to destroy his belongings is NOT treating him as one of you. So, since all of you are so keen to show me your rejection of him so early in your stay here, I think it would be smart of me to do the same.โ€

My breath gets stuck in my chest as I have no understanding of what heโ€™s about to do. Am I about to be rejected from the program? Iโ€™ve been told many times that if you get rejected from a packโ€™s warrior program in the first week of arriving on their territory that itโ€™s an automatic rejection from the program. That the council will not approve of any other requests to go on another run.

I feel Damianโ€™s hand on mine as he takes the heavy duffel bag filled with wet clothes from my hand.

โ€œCome on. Letโ€™s get closer so we know whatโ€™s going on.โ€

Iโ€™m a bundle of nerves now and I canโ€™t hide the tremors in my hands or the fear in my eyes. Damian stops and studies me briefly before whispering.

โ€œCole, whatโ€™s going on?โ€

My eyes meet his as I whisper as well.

โ€œIโ€™m not ready to leave. I just got away from there.โ€

โ€œMy father wouldnโ€™t do that. Youโ€™ve done nothing wrong. Just stay with me, youโ€™re doing fine. You seem to get very anxious very easily. Do you take meds to help you with that?โ€

As much as I didnโ€™t want to admit that Iโ€™m a nervous wreck when Iโ€™m in the attention of anyone higher than a gamma, I donโ€™t want to lie to the alphaโ€™s son either. At least, not aplete lie.

โ€œI usually take several medications to ease my social anxiety and ocd. Xanax if things get really bad during the day, Iโ€™ll take that at night.โ€

โ€œObviously youโ€™re not on it now, why?โ€

โ€œDrug test. I didnโ€™t want you thinking I was a nut job when it showed up.โ€

Alpha Damian shakes his head with a slight chuckle.

โ€œAll you had to do was tell us. Itโ€™s right in the application.โ€

I shake my head while keeping pace walking with Alpha Damian heading back to the rest of the group.

โ€œMy dad is extremely controlling as to what packs I go to for training. Heโ€™s the one that fills out the application each time and submits it to the council. He knows Iโ€™m on medication but insists that I stay off them. Dr. Carter makes arrangements at Red General to make sure I can get the medication but I canโ€™t always get there so my ability to take it is inconsistent.โ€

Alpha Damian stops in his tracks forcing me to stop as he turns to face me. He looks me in the eyes to which I look away, down to the ground.

โ€œTalk to my dad, Cole. If you know what you were on he can get you back on it.โ€

He starts walking again after I nod my head. He motions for me to head off to the side of the rest of the group, standing with me so Iโ€™m not alone.

I watch silently as one of the men apanying alpha picks up a bag. I immediately recognize it as mine. I sigh in relief that they didnโ€™t find that one too.

โ€œCole Redmen,โ€ the wolf calls out.

โ€œHere.โ€ I call back as I wave my hand lightly.

I see the one holding the bag hand it to another who starts over towards me with a key in his hand.

โ€œLucas.โ€

He stops before he even gets two feet from the alpha.

โ€œIโ€™m going to take care of him and his room assignment personally. Iโ€™ll take his pack until weโ€™re done.โ€

He looks my way before he speaks again.

โ€œCole Redmen?โ€

He seems to question looking for verification. I nod my head in response.

โ€œDo you have any more?โ€

โ€œNo sir,โ€ I speak as I shake my head.

He gives me a nod as the wolf by the luggage calls out another name. He hands the pack off to Alpha Cullen. The luggage is ced at the feet of Das as he is handed a new key. The process is repeated until every piece of luggage brought is with their owner prompting Alpha to speak again.

โ€œNormally I treat every prospect thates into my program as an individual. Now, I will continue to do that with the major rules that I have no tolerance for. We are a very simple pack to get along with as long as you donโ€™t steal, fight, rape, do drugs or get shit faced drunk. With that being said., from here on out I will be watching all of you very closely as you have not made a good first impression and I feel that youโ€™re going to be trouble. For minor infractions, if one of you does it all of you will receive discipline for it.โ€

โ€œIs that why weโ€™re now on the third floor?โ€ Das interrupts in disgust.

โ€œAbsolutely, Das. The first floor rooms have perks. So we try to fill those first. Since my son has had to break up two fights amongst yourselves already, the entire group will be sacrificing those perks and moving to the third floor. Any additionalints over the consequences you have brought upon yourselves will be met with additional penalties.โ€

โ€œWhat about Cole? Heโ€™s the alphaโ€™s son. Heโ€™s one of us.โ€

Tyler tries again to get me sucked into their consequences.

โ€œAs I said earlier. Since everyone here is so keen on rejecting Cole from the pack it wouldnโ€™t be proper, as the lead alpha of this territory, to treat him as a member of your pack. For the duration of his stay here Cole will be recognized as a member of the Red Fang packโ€ฆโ€

I can see the smiles spreading across all of my pack membersโ€™ faces as he spoke.

โ€œBut that will be for the sole purpose of documenting and reporting back to the council. I prefer to treat everyone as an individual and that is what I will be doing with Cole. Any benefits or penalties that he receives will be between him and the one giving it out, thus it will be none of anyone elseโ€™s business to know.โ€

Iโ€™ve never seen faces of shock happen as quickly as it did when he finished his decision about me.

โ€œOnly half of the twenty-four wolves here are actually from the Red Fang pack. The rest of us are from the Crescent Moon pack. Why are we getting sucked into Red Fangโ€™s consequences?โ€

โ€œWhile I do apologize for the inconvenience that itโ€™s causing, I was only alerted a few minutes ago that the Crescent Moon pack was unable toplete their registration in time to attend this run so Alpha Redmen filed all of the applications with the council in a way that lumped all of you together as a single pack. It is quitemon for packs in close contact with each other to band together for the purpose of the program especially if they have only a small number of wolves attending the run from each pack. It will take me some time to work out who is from which pack so I am going to ask for your patience with that.โ€

I canโ€™t help but cock my head, studying the alpha as he approaches me. Instinctively, I take a step back when he stops within a foot of me, quickly averting my eyes away from his.

โ€œRx. I mean what I said.โ€

I nod slightly but keep my head and eyes down in submission. Without warning I feel his hand on my chin. Without thinking I overreact to the alphaโ€™s touch, fighting to get away from him. Very quickly his hands have both my wrists and heโ€™s pressed them against my chest. I can hear the rest of the prospectsughing and jeering at me.

โ€œAlphaโ€™s son is such a baby, so weak heโ€™s afraid of the alpha.โ€

โ€œEnough! I do not tolerate bullying of any sort!โ€

I canโ€™t help but cringe away from his booming voice with the alpha aura. Even with his strong aura still present he manages to lower his voice to a morefortable level when he speaks directly to me.

โ€œThough it does seem that you are very much afraid of me as this is a very strong reaction. Iโ€™ll let go when you rx and show me control.โ€
